About the Conference
GIS has moved beyond maps.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have transformed the way we understand, visualize, analyze, and manage our world. From conventional cartography to sophisticated geospatial intelligence, GIS has evolved into a powerful interdisciplinary framework that connects location-based data with technology, science, policy, and decision-making.
Today, the rapid advancement of Remote Sensing, Earth Observation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), GeoAI, Geographic Positioning Systems, Web GIS, cloud computing, Big Data, and real-time geospatial technologies is creating new opportunities for understanding complex spatial and environmental challenges.
GIS is no longer simply a tool for producing maps. It has become an essential platform for addressing questions of where, why, when, who, and what next.
Its applications extend across climate change, disaster risk reduction, environmental conservation, agriculture, public health, urban and rural planning, natural-resource management, infrastructure development, social vulnerability, and sustainable development.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognize the importance of reliable, timely, and geographically disaggregated information for effective planning, implementation, and monitoring.
Geospatial technologies can help translate global development objectives into place-based knowledge and locally relevant action.
